Teaching Black History to White People

by Leonard M. Moore

Moore, a professor at the University of Texas, transforms one of his most popular history classes into an easily digestible synopsis of Black American history and an explanation of why it’s important for everyone to become familiar with it.

Likes: conversational style, not afraid to confront difficult topics head-on, powerful use of personal anecdotes and memorable comparisons (Monopoly!)

Dislikes: a fast survey of a very deep and complex topic, at times loses some of the nuances

Overall: a great introduction for those unfamiliar with Black American history.

I'm a writer and avid reader living in Dallas, Texas. When I'm not at my computer, I am reading in my favorite chair with one of my cats. You can also find me in the stacks at my local branch library, haunting the shelves of my favorite bookstores, or walking my dog.
